Interview Platform Proctoring: What Each One Records
What HackerRank, CodeSignal, Codility, CoderPad, Karat, HireVue, Zoom, Meet and Teams actually record in a technical interview — sourced to each vendor's docs.
How these pages are written
Every claim on every page below was read off that vendor's own public documentation, and the page carries the link it came from. Where a vendor's documentation is silent, the page says so instead of guessing — that is the part most write-ups on this subject get wrong, and it is the part that matters when you are about to sit the thing.
We do not claim any product is undetectable on any named platform, ours included. Nobody outside these vendors can test that.
Sources last checked against vendor documentation in August 2026.
Take-home & timed assessments
You sit these alone, against a timer. This is where proctoring features live: webcams, screenshots, browser lockdown and, increasingly, desktop applications.
Is HackerRank Proctored? What It Actually Records
Only if the employer turns it on. Tab and copy-paste tracking are on by default. Secure Mode adds full-screen lockdown in the browser. Proctor Mode asks you to share your entire screen and takes screenshots every 15 seconds plus webcam images. Desktop App Mode installs a native app.
What HackerRank documentsIs CodeSignal Proctored? What It Records — Screen, Camera and Mic
Some are, some are not — CodeSignal tells you before you start. In a proctored evaluation you share your camera, microphone and entire screen for the whole session, plus a photo ID. CodeSignal reviews that footage itself, deletes it within 15 days, and does not send it to the employer.
What CodeSignal documentsIs Codility Proctored? What Codility Records and Flags
Only when the employer enables it — proctoring is off by default and must be switched on before the first invite. It can log pastes, tab switches and task-description copies, take webcam snapshots, record your screen, and, in Device Integrity mode, run a desktop app that checks for known tools.
What Codility documentsLive coding interviews
A human is on the other end. The monitoring is mostly the interviewer plus a keystroke record of the editor, not a camera pointed at your room.
Does CoderPad Record Your Screen? What a CoderPad Interview Captures
Not in a live interview. CoderPad's Interview documentation describes keystroke playback inside the pad — every character typed, pastes, and when you left the IDE — not a video of your desktop. Webcam proctoring exists in CoderPad Screen, their async test product, and captures stills only.
What CoderPad documentsIs a Karat Interview Recorded? What Karat Captures and Who Watches It
Yes. Karat states that every interview, including the audio and a code playback, is recorded, and the video goes to the recruiter. The monitoring is human: a live Interview Engineer trained to flag behaviour such as typing outside the browser window or repeatedly looking between monitors.
What Karat documentsVideo meeting platforms
Meeting software, not proctoring software. What is captured is what you chose to share, plus your camera and microphone.
Does HireVue Record Your Screen? What a HireVue Interview Captures
Sometimes. HireVue documents that some OnDemand interviews require you to share your computer screen, and that you may be asked to share it in a Live interview too. Otherwise it records your camera and microphone. HireVue's candidate help centre documents no browser lockdown and no desktop proctoring app.
What HireVue documentsCan a Zoom Host See Your Screen? What Zoom Shares and Records
No. Zoom's documentation is explicit: hosts and participants cannot see your screen without your permission, and they can only view what you choose to share. Share your entire screen and they see everything on it; share one window and they see that window.
What Zoom documentsDoes Google Meet Record Your Entire Screen? What a Meet Recording Captures
Only what you present. Meet lets you share a tab, a window or your entire screen, and Google states a recording captures the active speaker and anything presented — other windows and notifications are not saved. Everyone is notified when recording starts or stops.
What Google Meet documentsWhat Does a Microsoft Teams Recording Capture? Screen Share, Video and Audio
Audio, video and screen-sharing activity. Microsoft documents that a Teams recording captures those three things, and lists what it does not capture: more than four video streams at once, whiteboards and annotations, shared notes, content shared by app, and video embedded in PowerPoint Live.
What Microsoft Teams documentsRecorded, flagged, or blocked
Each platform page tags every control with one of three words. Candidates routinely collapse them into "they can see everything", and they are not the same thing at all.
An artefact is stored and a reviewer can look at it later.
An event is noted on the report. Nothing is stored to look at.
The action is prevented rather than observed.

Know what you are walking into
Stealth Interview is a desktop app for macOS and Windows that reads the problem on your screen and returns a working solution with a step-by-step explanation and its time and space complexity, while staying invisible to screen sharing.
