How the two are built
This is a browser-versus-native comparison, and both sides of it are real engineering trade-offs rather than marketing positions.
A web application inherits the browser's reach: any machine with a modern browser can run it, including machines you have no rights to install on, which is a genuinely common situation for candidates interviewing from a current employer's laptop. It also inherits the browser's boundaries — a page runs inside a tab, and everything it can draw is drawn inside that tab.
A native desktop application inherits the opposite set. It has to be installed, which rules out locked-down hardware, and it must be built and shipped separately for macOS and Windows. In exchange it draws its own window outside the browser, and that window is excluded from screen-sharing capture.
The third difference is what each product is tuned to emit. Sensei AI's published feature set is oriented around speaking well: latency under a second, tone, formality, timing. Stealth Interview is oriented around being correct in writing: a solution, an explanation, and the complexity you will be asked to justify. Two different definitions of a good answer.
Nothing above says anything about what a proctoring system can observe in either product. We have not tested Sensei AI and would not publish a guess.
What the platforms actually document
Live video interviews and proctored assessments are so different that a single answer to is it detectable cannot be right for both. On a Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call, there is no scanning software: an interviewer sees your shared screen and hears you talk.
Proctored assessments are where documented enforcement lives. HackerRank's knowledge base (August 2026) describes Secure Mode as a controlled browser environment that enforces full screen, blocks copy and paste, prevents multiple monitors and flags tab switches, and Proctor Mode as adding screenshot analysis, plagiarism detection and webcam anomaly detection. Its Desktop App Mode requires installing an application that blocks and closes other programs, prevents screen sharing and screenshots, checks for screen mirroring and multiple monitors, and refuses to run on a virtual machine.
Those documents are public and worth ten minutes of your time before an assessment. They also make the honest limit of every product on this page clear: in a mode where the platform closes other applications, the answer is preparation, not procurement.

Per Sensei AI's home page (August 2026), PRO is $89 per month or $24 per month billed annually. Our Hunter plan is $250 for a year. Do that arithmetic against your own search length before you buy anything — on a long, low-intensity search, theirs may well come out ahead.
You cannot install software
A web application runs on a managed laptop where you have no administrator rights. An installed desktop app does not. That constraint decides the question on its own.
