The problem

Given the root of a binary tree, return an array of the largest value in each row of the tree (0-indexed).

Example

Input
root = [1,3,2,5,3,null,9]
Output
[1,3,9]

Python solution

Python
# Definition for a binary tree node.
# class TreeNode:
#     def __init__(self, val=0, left=None, right=None):
#         self.val = val
#         self.left = left
#         self.right = right
class Solution:
    def largestValues(self, root: Optional[TreeNode]) -> List[int]:
        ans = []
        if root is None:
            return ans
        q = deque([root])
        while q:
            x = -inf
            for _ in range(len(q)):
                node = q.popleft()
                x = max(x, node.val)
                if node.left:
                    q.append(node.left)
                if node.right:
                    q.append(node.right)
            ans.append(x)
        return ans
